Price trends for solar, which can be viewed here, show that the cost of residential solar has come down dramatically in recent years. Since 2000, for example, the price has come down by two thirds, and since 2010, it has come down 42%. However, the price declines in the last 3-4 years have been more modest, about 2-3% per year, a trend that is expected to continue in the coming years.
The price declines are the result of dramatic increases in production and installation, causing the price per kilowatt hour to become lower as economies of scale increase and technology improve. However, as compared to large “utility-scale” solar installations, these efficiencies have less impact on residential rooftop solar. So waiting a year might result in another 2-3% savings on a rooftop system, but you would also be foregoing the energy savings that you would get from having the system in place over that year. Also, no one knows how long the current government incentives for rooftop solar will last.

This fee is over and above the discount that you as a customer receive, and the amount of the fee is the same regardless of which installer we end up recommending to our customers. The fee is shared between GroupSolar and our partners in the environmental sector.
